If you’re designing your own clothing then it’s essential you know how to get cheap customized t-shirts printed. It basically involves following a few basic rules which I’ll outline in this article. As the owner of a t-shirt printing company I often get approached by aspiring fashion designers who want t-shirts printed as cheaply as possible. I also get a lot of guys in bands who come up to me with interesting ideas for t-shirts, but most of the time their designs are just too complex to be printed within a low budget. That’s why I decided to write this article.
The first and perhaps most important tip I’ll offer here is to keep your designs simple. I don’t mean overly basic, what I mean is do you really need a full colour design when a mono or 2 colour logo can be just as effective. This is particularly important with band logos. Just because you’d seen some intricate full colour printed t-shirts on your favourite world-touring band’s merchandise stand, it doesn’t mean that you have to have the same kind of thing. Famous bands have big money to spend on merchandise, and they have to order very large quantities to get the unit price they need in order to sell them on for profit, and even then this can take months of touring to finally clear out their stock. If you’re in a band with a very low budget, you don’t need fancy merchandise – you need decent quality merchandise that looks good and does the job. So reduce the number of colours in your design, and you’ll be able to get a cheaper quote. It’s really that simple.
Secondly, don’t try to get cheap customized t-shirts when you’ve left it until the last minute, especially if you’ve left it to the last minute. Most t-shirt printing companies work to a 1 week turnaround, for large orders. So it’s best to plan ahead as much as possible, the same as with many things in life. This is basically because if you’re putting pressure on the t-shirt printing firm to rush the job for you when they have other customers to look after as well, you will have less bargaining power when it comes to negotiating the price. No staff at the printing shop will want to work a late shift if their not getting paid their full rate. I mean, would you?
My third and final tip in this article is about t-shirt type. Don’t mistake t-shirt weight for t-shirt quality. Do you really need Gildan Ultra Heavyweight t-shirts made from 100% pre-shrunk cotton, when lightweight Stedman t-shirts look absolutely fine, are very well made, and do the job perfectly? Being flexible with the make and model of t-shirt you use can save a lot of money because lighter weight t-shirts are often cheaper than heavier ones. It’s not a poorer quality product – lightweight shirts can be much more comfortable to wear, particularly in hot climates.
The main thing to remember is that t-shirt printing firms really do appreciate your business and are usually very flexible and accommodating to your needs, and their staff will be more than happy to work with you to produce shirts to within your budget. Many people end up not bothering to get any shirts printed at all because they were not prepared to consider alternative printing options. So be flexible, rather than having a set and rigid idea of how you want your t-shirts to be. You might just end up saving yourself a fortune and getting surprisingly good customized t-shirts in the process.
